Robotic abrasive waterjet cutting system cuts 3-D metal parts

Alliance Automation LLC has introduced a fully enclosed robotic abrasive waterjet cutting cell for cutting small 3-D metal parts. >

The enclosure comprises sound-dampening panels that lower sound levels to 82 dB at the operator station. A turntable wall indexes and seals shut for operator load and unload.

Two 6-axis Yaskawa Motoman MH24 XP robots are needed for the abrasive environment. The XP version is IP67-rated through the entire arm. A custom jacket also is added so the robots can be washed down with a hose for scheduled maintenance.

The system lowers operating costs by eliminating the need for long setup times of different parts. All jobs can be preprogrammed and selected through the touchscreen HMI or scanned from RFID tags on the tool.
