Fronius ArcTig welding torch allows electrode cooling to the tip

Fronius has developed ArcTig, a modified GTAW process for mechanized joint welding. The torch has an electrode clamping system that enables the electrode to be cooled to the tip, increasing the combined resistance and creating a high arc voltage.

Electron emission takes place over a small area but at an extremely high density. This makes the arc narrower and more targeted for improved weld seam quality, the company states. The cooling also prevents overheating of the electrode during welding.

Users can weld up to 0.4-in.-thick, high-alloy sheets and pipes without extensive seam preparation, quickly, and to a high-quality standard, according to the manufacturer.
