Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT’s Argweld Weld Backing Tape reduces oxidation
- February 12, 2019
- Product Release
- Arc Welding
Argweld® Weld Backing Tape™ from Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® is a glass fiber tape that resists high temperatures and supports weld roots. It eliminates the creation of slag while removing contact with air to help reduce oxidation in manual and automatic welding.
The tape has no true melting point, so it works with GTAW and GMAW. Four grades are available for use up to 80, 160, 240, or 600 amps.
In the center of each 3-in.-wide aluminum adhesive tape is a 1-in.-wide band of woven glass fiber. The glass fiber matting, which has differing thicknesses to match the welding current in use, is positioned under the center of the weld joint. The welding torch argon flow has sufficient space to move between the pores of the matting so the arc can stabilize and start forming the weld root.
