Vacuum control system regulates pressure in micro laser beam welding

Focus GmbH has launched a system for micro laser beam welding in vacuum. The Focus LaVa L95 is equipped with a vacuum control system for precise pressure regulation. After initial pump-down, a noble gas pressure valve regulates to the desired welding pressure. This allows operating the welding process from the low end of 1 mbar up to 200 mbar.

A special mode gives the option to operate the laser beam welding process under atmospheric pressure with a shielding gas. This makes the system suitable for metallurgical R&D work.

The machine comprises a 95-l process chamber. Integrated CNC interpolates the motion of an XY table, rotary devices, and the Z move of the laser focus in common with the laser power. Since the optics, laser, and fiber guides are handled in atmosphere, the system can be equipped with a variety of laser components.
