No-crash course: webcast about AM simulation software

CGTech/VERICUT engineer Gerald Ohlms to discuss the importance of simulation software when 3D printing

additive manufacturing

A CGTech/Vericut webcast will explore the use of simulation software for AM operations. CGTech

Using toolpath simulation, verification, and optimization software is a popular way to prevent costly—and dangerous—crashes from occurring on lathes, mills, and other subtractive manufacturing equipment. And as additive manufacturing processes grow in popularity, simulation software is working its way into the AM realm.

The reasons are because of the high cost of AM and hybrid (additive/subtractive) machines, unfamiliarity with how these machines function, workers’ inexperience with 3D printing technologies, and, naturally, to prevent crashes.

Crash avoidance is especially critical with hybrid machines, according to an article published in The Additive Report last year. Co-authored by CGTech Product Manager Gene Granata, the article states that for a “hybrid machine loaded with cutting tools and a printhead that must peacefully coexist, additive manufacturing simulation is every bit as valuable a tool as its subtractive counterpart.”

Granata’s CGTech colleague, Gerald Ohlms, will explore that and related simulation software topics during a webcast scheduled for May 20, 2020, at 2 p.m. EST.

The title of the webcast—hosted by The Additive Report—is “Simulation Paves the Way for Productivity With Additive Manufacturing.” Ohlms has been a Technical Support Engineer for CGTech’s VERICUT software since 2016.

Among the things you will learn during the webcast are:

• How simulation software can help designers create parts to suit their additive manufacturing capabilities.

• Why simulating post-processed NC code on digital twin virtual machines is the best way to protect your additive equipment investment.

• How to use additive manufacturing simulation software to validate that planned operations and setups will work and parts will be producible.

• What types of problems additive simulation can help you avoid.

• What robust additive simulation software can do in addition to just “building a part.”
