Desktop Metal awarded seminal separable supports patents

Burlington, Mass.-based Desktop Metal, a provider of 3-D metal printing equipment, has been granted seminal patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its inventions in interface layer technology for both its Studio System™, the first office-friendly metal 3-D printing system for rapid prototyping, and Production System™, its 3-D printing system for mass production of high-resolution parts.

According to the company, these systems enable users to print large metal parts with complex geometries that can be removed easily by hand from their support structures, or to print metal objects with separable interlocking structures.
