GKN Powder Metallurgy announces technology partnership with EOS to industrialize metal 3D printing

GKN Powder Metallurgy has announced a strategic partnership with EOS, a provider of industrial 3D printing systems for metals and polymers. Together, the companies have designed a process for laser metal 3D printing that has reduced production time by 70 percent and overall cost by up to 50 percent, GKN reports.

While additive manufacturing (AM) has been embraced by the automotive and industrial industries for rapid prototyping, customers often find the process cost-prohibitive for producing parts at full-scale production. The combination of GKN's EOS StainlessSteel 316L VPro metal powder and EOS's process and AM expertise allows users to create a high-performance part designed for end-use at scale, the company states.
