LPW Technology opens $26 million metal powder production site

Additive manufacturing materials maker LPW Technology has opened a 90,000-sq.-ft. metal powder production plant in Widnes, U.K. The $26.5 million plant will manufacture metal powders used by customers in the aerospace, automotive, and biomedical industries for 3-D printing.

The plant has a variety of powder production equipment, including atomizers for melting feedstock, as well as metal powder testing equipment for material characterization. The facility is designed to prevent contamination of powders.
