Small talk: book explains the advantages of microscale 3D printers

A new frontier has opened in product miniaturization, says Nano Dimension, a manufacturer of printers for building small parts.

The latest generation of microscale 3D printers can make plastic parts from layers just 1 micron thick. They also build components comparable to those produced by micro-injection molding—without the need for or cost of tooling, the company claims. Alternatively, if a shop chooses, it can use a microprinter to prototype microtooling in a matter of hours and at a significant reduction in cost.

For those interested in learning more about micro-AM, Nano Dimension has published a book that can be downloaded for free by registering at the company’s website. Titled Precision Micro Additive Manufacturing, it explains the business advantages of increasing production capacity to include smaller parts and submillimeter features.
