Wayland metal printer features in-process monitoring

A challenge faced by users of metal additive manufacturing systems is the lack of in-process monitoring, says Wayland Additive. The company sought to remedy the problem while developing the proprietary NeuBeam technology for its Calibur3 system. In-process monitoring was included as a key function during build-out of the system.

NeuBeam reportedly enables metallurgical requirements to be tailored to an application’s specific requirements. The monitoring system features three independent but complementary processes: high-speed cameras, structured light scanning, and electron imaging. Combined, they provide extensive, detailed data about every part that comes off a Calibur3 system.

This monitoring system generates useful data about the element composition and grain structure of a part that can be analyzed and used to support traceability and demonstrate a part’s internal quality.
