Hobart Institute releases instructional programs for pipe GTAW

"Gas Tungsten Arc Welding of 2-inch Pipe" provides a step-by-step explanation of how to weld mild steel pipe in the 2G, 5G, and 6G welding positions using the GTAW process.The training materials package includes two DVDs, an instructor guide, and a written test (50 copies). The instructor guide comprises the curriculum guide, one student workbook, one technical guide, and an answer key for the test. The student workbooks, which also are sold individually, contain a course overview and introduction; safety information; equipment management; joint preparation; welding; and visual inspection for 2G, 5G, and 6G pipe welds.
The other program, "Gas Tungsten Arc Welding – Shielded Metal Arc Welding of 6-inch Pipe," is the second portion developed to complete the pipe GTAW course. The package includes two DVDs, an instructor guide, and two written tests (50 copies). The instructor guide consists of the curriculum guide, one student workbook, one technical guide, and an answer key for the tests. Student workbooks for this program also are sold individually. They contain a course overview and introduction; safety information; preparation and assembly of an open root pipe joint; welding of 2G, 5G, and 6G pipe in mild and stainless steel; and pipe weld quality. The material also covers the use of consumable inserts.
The training programs replace the previous edition of "Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Pipe and Tubing." The complete course is classroom-ready, Hobart reports. Additional information is available at www.welding.org.
