Tube City IMS LLC to be honored for 'green' shipping practices

Tube City IMS LLC, a provider of products and services to steel mills and foundries globally, today announced that it is a recipient of CSX Transportation's (CSXT) first-ever Environmental Award. The award will be conferred upon Tube City IMS at the CSX Environmental Awards dinner to be held in Jacksonville, Fla., on April 23.

CSXT is recognizing its freight railroad customers whose shipping practices help to significantly reduce carbon emissions. In 2008, Tube City IMS reduced carbon emissions by thousands of tons by shipping scrap on CSXT freight rail. In addition, by choosing to ship via rail CSXT customers also help alleviate congestion on the roads and conserve fossil fuels.

"Tube City IMS is honored to receive this prestigious award from CSXT. Across our organization protecting the environment is of the utmost importance to Tube City IMS and this award stands as testimony of our teammates' efforts to preserve our environment for future generations," said Joseph Curtin, vice chairman of Tube City IMS. "It's very important to our company and our business that we look for every opportunity to 'green' our supply chain and create a better environment for everyone."

"CSXT is pleased to honor Tube City IMS with this award," said Clarence W. Gooden, executive vice president - sales and marketing and chief commercial officer, CSX. "Shipping via freight rail is the most environmentally-friendly mode of surface transportation; one train is as efficient as 280 trucks, and can haul a ton of freight more than 436 miles on a single gallon of fuel."
