Ford GT wheels display weight, efficiency advantages of carbon fiber

Ford has announced that the carbon fiber-bodied Ford GT® also will offer an all-new carbon-fiber wheel. Produced with supplier partner Carbon Revolution, the wheels are constructed with fiber and resin technology that permits design flexibility that allows flowing, intricate spokes.

Carbon-fiber wheels offer weight savings and improved vehicle dynamics and ride quality compared to traditional aluminum wheels, says the company. In addition, carbon fiber’s strong, light nature reduces unsprung weight and rotational inertia to help improve suspension action, ride quality, and dynamic performance.

This is the second Ford vehicle to offer the carbon-fiber wheels; they first became standard equipment on the 2015 Shelby® GT350R Mustang. Unlike the Shelby GT350R’s black-painted carbon-fiber wheels, Ford GT wheels will be offered in either a matte or glossy clearcoat, permitting the carbon-fiber weave to show through. The finishes match the two exposed carbon finishes available on the sills, fascia, and extractor of the vehicle.
