- May 8, 2006
- News Release
- Metals/Materials
For the fourth year in a row, Mill Steel Co. has been named one of the 10 Elite Winners of "West Michigan's 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For" by the Michigan Business and Professional Association (MBPA).
The company was recognized for its ability to educate, motivate, and reward its staff successfully, earning Mill Steel the Elite Category award for best overall Recognition and Retention. This was the seventh accolade given by the MBPA to Mill Steel in the last four years.
The MBPA noted specific examples of the company's strategy as exceptional and unique. These included:
- A culture of ownership, which ensures that the right people want to stay and grow with the company.
- Discretionary bonuses that immediately reward exceptional performance.
- Opportunities for staff to join senior management in forward-looking business planning.
- Monthly luncheons that allow all staff to discuss opportunities and challenges directly with company management and ownership.
- Building an environment that people want to participate in and therefore have no reason to look elsewhere for work.
"Elite Award recipients stand out from most businesses in that they have exceeded traditional practices used to recruit, develop, motivate, and retain their employees," said Jennifer Kluge, COO and executive vice president of the Michigan Business and Professional Association.
