Ruukki launches North American operations

Ruukki, a Finnish steel manufacturer, has opened its U.S. headquarters, Ruukki USA Inc., in Pittsburgh and its Canadian headquarters, Ruukki Canada Inc., in Toronto, serving North American manufacturers involved in transportation, heavy lifting, mining, and other demanding industrial applications.

The company specializes in steels developed with direct quenching technology, imparting mechanical properties such as superior surface hardness, core hardness, and uniform toughness, according to the manufacturer.

Two steels are offered in North America. Optim is a high-strength steel that helps manufacturers reduce energy costs for equipment, vehicles, and other industrial products, the company states. It is suitable for frame structures in commercial vehicles, mobile machines, and equipment booms. Raex is a wear-resistant steel with a hardness and impact toughness suitable for bucket trucks and containers, mining equipment, platform structures, and feeders. Plate is available in thicknesses from 0.08 to 3.15 in.
