Achates Power opens office near Detroit

Internal combustion engine developer Achates Power Inc. has opened its Midwest Operations in Farmington Hills, Mich. The decision to locate an engineering facility there comes after the company secured two contracts in the first two months of 2015: one with a global OEM and the second with the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC). Achates is developing the Advanced Combat Engine (ACE) as part of the Army's 30-year strategy to modernize tactical and combat vehicles.

The new 4,000-sq.-ft. customer application engineering facility will create 12 new jobs for engineers and program managers immediately, and the company plans to employ a total of 20 people by the end of the year.
