Glendale Mfg. opens plant in Arizona

Glendale Mfg. Co., the manufacturing arm of truck and trailer manufacturer U-Haul Intl., has opened a new, 114,000-sq.-ft. plant in Glendale, Ariz. The company will satisfy and expand upon the steel fabrication, welding, and powder coating operations that have been fulfilled at AMFORM (American Fabricators of Raw Materials) since 1994. AMFORM will close in the coming weeks.

Glendale Mfg. manufactures truck and trailer components, utility and appliance dollies, awnings, key-drop boxes, carriages and housings, tools, U-Haul display signage, and other components and special projects in twice the interior space and nearly six times the acreage of AMFORM.

Two Salvagnini L3 fiber lasers are integrated with a computerized laser cutting and tiered Salvagnini MV pallet storage system to help expedite the process from the time raw materials arrive until finished industrial components are shipped. Six robotic units handle much of the welding work load, while manual welding areas service more delicate assignments. The facility also has an automated line powder coating system that includes a Pangborn inline sandblast machine, Gema Magic powder booth, and oven curing room.

Upgrades for employees include a computer training room, wellness center, men’s and women’s locker rooms, secured-gate parking, and 82-degree warehouse. The facility is budgeted to employ 199 people.
