SHRM LINE: Hiring expected to be strong in October, despite recruiting struggles

In October more than two out of five manufacturing and service sector companies will add jobs, according to the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) Leading Indicators of National Employment (LINE) survey for September 2015.

The hiring rate will be virtually unchanged in manufacturing and will rise slightly in services compared with a year ago. The layoff rate will rise slightly in both sectors compared with a year ago.

A net of 45.3 percent of manufacturers will add jobs in October (54.7 percent will hire, 9.4 percent will cut jobs). The sector’s hiring index will drop by just 0.1 points compared with a year ago.

A net of 45.3 percent of service-sector companies will also conduct hiring in October (53 percent will add jobs, 7.7 percent will cut jobs). The index will rise by 4.6 points compared with a year ago.
