WPI professor wins ASME Ben Sparks Medal

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Worcester, Mass., has announced that Allen H. Hoffman, professor of mechanical engineering and co-director of WPI's Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC), has been selected to receive the 2016 Ben C. Sparks Medal from ASME.

The award, which recognizes outstanding service to mechanical engineering education, recognizes Hoffman for his seminal contributions to the WPI Plan, the university's undergraduate curriculum.

Established in 1990, the Sparks Medal is awarded annually to engineers who have played a major role, over an extended period of time, in fostering new methods for teaching mechanical engineering or engineering technology.
