Smalley donates abrasive waterjet machining center to local college

Smalley Steel Ring Co., a manufacturer of retaining rings and wave springs, has donated an OMAX 2652 abrasive waterjet machining center to the College of Lake County (CLC) in Grayslake, Ill.

The midsize, cantilevered machine, which is the college’s first waterjet unit, has a table size of 5 ft. 9 in. by 2 ft. 6 in. Capable of tolerances up to ±0.001 in., it comes standard with an OMAX MAXJET® 5i nozzle.

The community college offers associate degrees in applied science and two certificate options in CNC programming. The school will integrate the machine into several courses, including fabrication, wire EDM, and welding in fall 2015.
