Automated welding system performs bore repair

The BW3000 AutoBoreWelder automated welding system from Climax Portable Machining & Welding Systems attaches directly to several of the manufacturer's boring machine mounting fixtures, allowing a single setup for both welding and machining operations.

The welding machine can weld in vertical, horizontal, and inverted positions for bore, flange, and valve repair. It offers rotary and axial motion and can reach up to 5 ft. into the bore. As the torch rotates, it deposits one continuous layer of metal inside the bore, laying up to 5 lbs. of metal/hr. A variety of torches allow buildup of bores from 0.51 to 53.94 in.

An autoskip function allows the operator to designate a portion of the piece not to be welded, such as keyways or grease fittings. This feature also is useful for out-of-round bores. Because the machine is operated remotely, the operator has a single point of control for all weld parameters and functions.
