Coupling technology withstands high-speed loading in press transfer system

Güdel Inc. and ATI Industrial Automation have collaborated on a 3-axis transfer press system that features exchangeable transfer rails secured by couplers. According to the companies, the coupler mitigates common issues that cause other exchangeable rails to get stuck between die changes.

ATI designed the custom tool changer for Güdel transfer lines to withstand the high-speed, high-inertia loading environment that is typical with this process. It comprises an appropriate locking mechanism, alignment pins, and sensors in a package that meets space constraints and loading requirements.

Güdel provides the electronic transfer rail and blank destack system. All servo motions are linked with parallel operating encoders synchronized to the angle of the press. The system uses guideways with maintenance-free bearings and standardized parts.
