Nonmetallic lubricant serves as alternative to precoat, copper wire coatings

Carpenter Technology Corp. has developed CarTech® EcoClear™ wire coating for cold heading fabrication of industrial fasteners used in aerospace, automotive, and consumer end-use applications. The nonmetallic lubricant, applied as a thin coating to heading-grade wire, was developed to provide an option between precoat and copper coatings.

According to the company, the coating is easy to apply and control, exhibits excellent cold headability, and is easy to remove following fabrication. It is intended for less severe heading applications requiring up to two strikes.
