Ball-nose milling cutters feature five cutting edges

Mapal offers a new type of CPMill milling cutter for premachining. The solid-carbide, ball-nose milling cutter features five cutting edges instead of four, and its highly spiraled geometry helps ensure optimal chip removal, the company reports.

The milling heads feature a CFS interface for simple changing. The taper and face offer a high concentricity of ≤ 5 μm.

According to the company, the five-edged cutter can produce about 85,000 components in one week, as compared to 75,000 parts with a four-edged cutter using the same machine capacity and without any additional investment in equipment. The new milling cutter also has a 25 percent longer service life than the previous model.
