Horizontal machining center equipped with linear motors

Comau has introduced the SmartDriveComau 800L horizontal machining center. It can be used as a single machining center or integrated with a flexible production line.

The unit is equipped with linear motors that offer high processing speed, maintained for up to five times longer than alternative systems based on ball screws, the company states. This operative method decreases the number of machining centers required and minimizes the space required by the machine.

Circular interpolation allows the machining of bores with a standard high-speed cutter. The same tool is used to manufacture bores of different dimensions.

The machine is available in a minimum-quantity lubricant version, in which through-tool oil mist replaces the coolant traditionally required by the cutting process.
