Automatic fastener-installation press performs without hydraulics

The PEMSERTER® Series 3000™ automatic fastener-installation press system from PennEngineering® performs without hydraulics to install all types of self-clinching fasteners in thin metal sheets.

The custom-built, fully servo-controlled, dual-axis, electromechanical actuator helps optimize ram speed and increase pressing forces while reducing energy usage. The proprietary clutch system provides a smooth, energy-efficient transition between servo axes. Roller screw technology enables the press to carry large loads at high speeds, the company says.

Regenerative/dynamic braking captures inertial energy and applies it to deceleration to help reduce external energy requirements.

After initial PC setup, all run logic is maintained in solid-state servo controller memory, which consumes less power than conventional systems. Multiple types of self-clinching fasteners can be installed automatically without any need for tooling changeovers.

The press is designed with a 24-in. throat depth and can realize a ram force up to 16,000 lbs. It can be operated remotely through networking.
