Cordless cutoff tool uses brushless motor

The Hilti AG 500-A18 cordless cutoff tool is the first with a brushless motor, the company states. The 18-V tool can cut or grind almost any type of metal, including strut, cast-iron pipe, steel, stainless steel, steel angle iron, flat steel, I-beam, conduit, rebar, threaded rod, decking, grating, and checker plate.

The tool comes with 25 thin, 5-in.-dia. cutoff blades. Sealed electronics help keep out debris, while a keyless quick-change flange allows wrench-free swapping of abrasive discs. An electronic brake stops the blade within 1 sec.
