Solid-carbide drill designed for aluminum workpieces

February 25, 2014

Kennametal’s new HPS solid-carbide drill features Beyond™ KN15™ grade fine-grain carbide and unique point geometry for holemaking in aluminum. Its highly polished surface helps reduce friction on flutes, margins, and cutting edges.

The drill features a proprietary, 135-degree, high-performance drill point for improved centering capabilities and feeds. The sharp cutting edges help lower cutting forces and extend tool life, the company states. An enlarged spiral flute helps speed chip evacuation and reduce cutting force.

Diameters vary from 0.118 to 0.787 in. Lengths of 3XD and 5XD (through-coolant) are available.
