System protects plasma torches from collision

July 12, 2005

MG Systems and Welding’s SureStop magnetic torch collision sensor system is designed to hold plasma torches rigidly in place and protect them from collision damage that results from programming errors, obstructions on the cutting table, improper material positioning, and tip-ups.

The system, which uses permanent magnets, also protects the torch in the Z-axis direction—up and down motion. Resetting after a collision takes five to 10 seconds, the company says.
