Vegetable-based coolants use no chlorine, formaldehyde, silicones

Condat has introduced Mecagreen vegetable-based soluble oils for machining and grinding applications. According to the company, these coolants provide long sump life and excellent cutting performance without the use of chlorine, DEA, DCHA, formaldehyde, or silicones.

Point-of-cut studies indicate that these blends of synthetic vegetable esters have achieved a 20 percent gain in tooling life and show a 30 to 45 percent reduction in consumption compared with traditional mineral-based coolants, says the manufacturer.

The coolants have similar residue as many synthetic coolants, so that windows, tables, toolholders, and parts stay clean. The transparent color also provides clear visibility of cutting processes.
