Press processes ultrathin materials

Nidec Minster Corp. has introduced the EV press series, designed for processing ultrathin materials used in electric and hybrid vehicles.

Producing laminations for the electric vehicle market typically requires long beds for extra die space, push/pull feeds to accommodate the thin material, and low deflection, according to the company. Both the EV-250 and EV-350 have a bed and ram length of 146 in. to accommodate the longer tooling requirements.

The cast-iron, low-vibration frame includes wide, upright openings and the patented Minster hydraulic clutch and brake. The hydrostatic/hydrodynamic gibbing for precision slide guiding is pressure-monitored and automatically shuts down if the system detects any issues with the guiding system.

Features include quick slide access, motorized slide adjustment with hydraulic locking, and adjust-in-motion for bottom dead center slide repeatability.
