Scanning probes accept long styli for flexibility

Hexagon Mfg. Intelligence has released the HP-S-X1 series of compact probes for 3-D CMM tactile scanning. The line features a new bearing system for improved joint repeatability and accepts longer horizontal styli for greater flexibility.

Operators do not need to change modules to address different measurement tasks, as the probes support stylus lengths of up to 8.86 in. They feature small external dimensions and long stylus lengths to measure surface features of complex parts, as well as bores or holes deep inside a workpiece.

Magnetic interfaces allow for automated stylus changes on the CMM. The probes support dynamic single-point contact measurement, self-centering measurement, and continuous high-speed scanning for data acquisition of various surface contours.
