An internship to remember

An intern for The FABRICATOR looks back on her summer experiences

An internship is a key stepping stone for young people preparing to enter the work force.

Working for North America’s leading magazine for the metal fabricating industry, I have found the environment at the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association’s headquarters in Elgin, Ill., to be both innovative and invigorating. Working as an intern for The FABRICATOR magazine was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

One is simply never too young to start looking for experiences to shape your future. At 19 years old, this internship at the magazine was a big step for me in that direction. Many people often associate an internship with “easy” work. However, every task in an organization has a certain amount of importance. While working for The FABRICATOR, I was not only given the opportunity to be an observer of the business-to-business journalism trade, but also had the chance to work and develop stories for the actual publication.

Each day at The FABRICATOR, employees deliver their best efforts to inform fabricators about the latest metal fabricating technologies and trends. Just like in the metal fabricating industry, to be successful, it is important that everyone works together.

In the last three months, I have spent time coding articles for thefabricator.com, and I have had the chance to write some articles. I also have translated documents from English to Spanish and proofread articles. I feel a connection with the metal fabricating market that I didn’t have before my internship.

With my internship coming to a close, I have gained valuable work experience. I will miss my my co-workers. I feel lucky enough to feel as if I’m a part of this publications family.
