Miller Fabrication Solutions receives Manufacturing Leadership Award

Miller Fabrication Solutions, a metal fabricator serving OEMS in the construction, mining, material handling, and conveying industries based in Brookeville, Pa., has received a Manufacturing Leadership Award from the National Association of Manufacturers’ Manufacturing Leadership Council.

The award recognizes Miller’s outstanding achievement in talent management leadership for its internal Weld Program, launched in October 2018, which provides nonwelder employees with four weeks of training in GMAW. The program lets employees train to become a welder while still working in their existing, full-time roles. Successful graduates can advance to a welding position within the company.

The classes run four to five hours each day and start students with planning and layout work before progressing to setting up and operating welding and cutting equipment. They learn to read blueprints and understand metal properties, metal identification, electrical principles, and welding symbols.

Managed by five Miller foremen, the program accepts three students at a time. Since the program’s inception, 89 percent of employees who completed it have moved into weld roles in the company.
