Coldwater Machine offers prototype, low-volume friction welding services

Coldwater Machine Co., Coldwater, Ohio, has announced its rotary friction welding service for companies interested in prototype or short-run production of 100 to 600 parts. Workpieces are joined using the company's SpinMeld™ solid-state joining system, suitable for joining bar stock and tubes, rods, cylinders, fasteners, studs, nuts, and fittings on various parts, as well as drills, rods, and hand tools with carbide inserts, heat sinks, air bag inflators, electrodes, and nearly any shafted component, which can comprise dissimilar materials.

The company specializes in cylindrical and symmetrical spinning components with maximum solid diameter of 2 in. and maximum length of 25 in., in thicknesses of at least 1/16 in. Larger diameters can be handled depending on the contact surface area of the materials.

With this service, the company also develops the necessary workholding tooling and offers mechanical testing, cross-sectioning, and NDT.
