ABB appoints president of Discrete Automation and Motion division

Zurich, Switzerland-based ABB has appointed Sami Atiya as president of the Discrete Automation and Motion (DM) division. He succeeds Pekka Tiitinen, who will serve as managing director of ABB in Finland.

Atiya worked for Siemens for 18 years, most recently as CEO of the Mobility and Logistics division and as CEO of the Computer Tomography unit. Before that he held various leadership roles at Siemens Medical Solutions Inc. and Siemens Business Services.

Atiya has a PhD in robotics, sensors, and data processing from the University of Wuppertal; a master’s degree in electrical engineering and automation from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany; and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
