Automated plate roller speeds up production for custom metal fabricator

Situation

Established in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1914, Rubin Iron Works has built a strong reputation and expertise in custom metal fabrication. After almost 100 years, in 2005 the company joined Berman Brothers, and the two together offer new steel, stainless steel, and aluminum products; scrap metal recycling services; and custom metal fabricating.

Rubin has long been making a variety of custom products, from industrial to artistic, using a manual three-roll bender. But recently facing a necessary upgrade, the company started considering adding an automatic plate roll to improve production time and capabilities. It wanted a new machine that would eliminate the need to bump plate ends and use overhead cranes and forklifts for support.

Resolution

Rubin turned to Capital Machine Technologies Inc. and decided quickly on a DAVI MCB F30 plate roll to speed and simplify production.

“The prebend rollers and additional support attachments are unique additions for a rolling machine,” said David Stoddard, Rubin’s vice president.

After some months of work with the new machine, Rubin has been most impressed with the user-friendly iRoll Performance interface, which makes it possible for the operator to teach others how to use it; the time reduction compared to the previous manual roller; and the ability to move the product through the shop.
