STLE to host two-day educational program on metalworking fluid basics

The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE), Park Ridge, Ill., is hosting a two-day educational program on lubrication and metalworking fluid basics March 15-16, 2023, at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Ill.

The education program, sponsored by STLE’s Chicago section, will help industry professionals advance their knowledge of lubrication and metalworking fluids while preparing them for STLE’s Certified Lubrication Specialist or Certified Metalworking Fluids Specialist certification.

The Basic Lubrication 101 course on March 15 will cover such topics as base oils, bearings, gears, grease, hydraulics, lubrication additives, and synthetics. The March 16 course, Metalworking Fluid Basics, will present case studies and focus on metalworking fluid components and formulations, the importance of water quality, workpiece metallurgies and tool materials, performance factors and laboratory tests, machining variables and processes, market trends, environmental and safety factors, and failure modes and possible causes.
