Valmont Coatings wins four Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing Awards

The Walter Pyramid, submitted by Valmont Calwest Galvanizing, received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Valmont Coatings, a business segment of Omaha, Neb.-based Valmont Industries Inc., has received four Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing awards from the American Galvanizers Association.

The AGA competition included 15 categories with nearly 100 projects from galvanizers around the world. The winning Valmont submissions include:

  1. Lifetime Achievement Award – Valmont Calwest Galvanizing in Long Beach, Calif., received this award for its submission of The Walter Pyramid. This 20-year-old landmark and indoor, multipurpose sports arena is located on the Long Beach State University campus. Its structural integrity is protected by hot-dip galvanized steel.
  2. Original Equipment Manufacturing Award - Valmont Tampa Galvanizing in Tampa, Fla., won for its submission of JJ’s Waste & Recycling. This project’s design uses galvanized steel for industrial waste management.
  3. Duplex Systems Award - Valmont Oklahoma Galvanizing in Claremore, Okla., won this award, which recognizes projects that use a duplex system of paint over galvanized steel, for its submission of the Gathering Place. This three-level, 21,000-sq.-ft. structure offers a boathouse and boatlift facility, as well as a restaurant, activity hall, and administrative office center for the Gathering Place Park.
  4. Transportation Award – Chicago-based Valmont Empire Galvanizing won with its submission of Chicago Transit Authority's 95th Street Red Line Terminal.
