72 Steel announces plans to open plant in Pennsylvania

Brooklyn-based 72 Steel, a manufacturer of products for the construction industry, has broken ground on a steel production plant in Aliquippa, Pa., at the former site of a Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. facility. However, construction on the $218 million project cannot begin until the company closes on the purchase of the 44-acre site.

The steelmaker hopes to begin production at the new plant in 2025, with the expectation of employing about 400 people. The facility ultimately will produce 500,000 tons of steel annually, the company reports.
