Steelcon expands fabrication capacity in Ontario

Steelcon Group of Companies has expanded its fabrication capacity with the addition of a manufacturing facility located in Welland, Ont. The acquisition of this 112,750-sq.-ft. facility gives the company a total of 712,750 sq. ft. when added to its four existing facilities in Canada and the U.S.

Designed to house two of Steelcon’s four SIN Beam lines, the new facility will focus mainly on SIN Beam and joist fabrication, as well as Steelcon’s patent-pending SIN Floor composite flooring system.

The flooring system is a structural panel system comprising three main parts: two cold-formed C sections, a sinusoidally corrugated deck, and a poured concrete topping. The C sections act as beams and are continuously welded to the corrugated deck to create one homogenous steel panel. The panels arrive to site fully preassembled and are erected between other structural members. Once the poured concrete topping has cured, the panel acts in composite action to take advantage of the concrete’s compressive strength and the steel’s tensile strength.

Production at the facility is set to begin in September 2023, and at peak capacity, the company expects to create up to 150 new, highly skilled manufacturing jobs.
