Tata Steel, Steel Warehouse unveil new abrasion-resistant steel

In partnership with South Bend, Ind.-based Steel Warehouse, Tata Steel has introduced Valast 450, a new, high-strength, hot-rolled, abrasion-resistant steel, in North America. The metal is offered in lighter gauges and tighter tolerances than plate for lightweighting.
This low-alloy steel, suitable for welding, is available in widths up to 81 in. Steel Warehouse, Tata’s distribution partner in North America and Brazil, also plans to introduce autogeneous laser welding at its production facilities to provide the material in custom widths and lengths.
