Moran Iron Works adds fabrication equipment for maritime market

Moran Iron Works (MIW) has added a beam drill line and cutting line at its metal fabricating facility in Onaway, Mich., for serving the maritime market. Capable of drilling and cutting metal beams of various shapes and sizes with CNC programming, the machines eliminate the need for manual layout and cutting of holes.

The company owns a deep-water port on the shore of Lake Huron in Rogers City. Centrally located in the Great Lakes, the port provides space and equipment to facilitate custom vessel construction and repair services.

The new equipment increases the company’s capacity for large beam fabrication. The drill spindle can drill holes up to 1-9/16 in. dia. in thicknesses up to 10 in. Advanced software and automation features help ensure precision drilling and reduce the risk of errors, the company states.
