Aerojet to close California, Virginia facilities

Aerojet Rocketdyne Inc. has announced it will close its manufacturing operations in Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Gainesville, Va. Rocket engine manufacturing will be consolidated in a new plant in Huntsville, Ala., where 800 jobs will be added by the end of next year.

In addition, defense-related program management, engineering, and related support positions in Sacramento, Calif., will be moved to Huntsville. Most remaining Rancho Cordova programs and support positions will be relocated to the firm’s space headquarters in Los Angeles.

The company reports that 300 employees will remain in Rancho Cordova to work in finance, legal, personnel, and other departments.
