Allentown Metal Works complex receives site rehab grant

The former Allentown Metal Works complex in Allentown, Pa., has received a $500,000 grant from the state to help reestablish manufacturing at the brownfield structure. The Allentown Economic Development Corp. (AEDC) was approved for the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant, which will go toward roof replacement, wall and ceiling insulation, and door replacement at the 52,000-sq.-ft. building.

The building reportedly will be suitable for a heavy steel fabricator or similar manufacturer and capable of supporting 25-ton overhead cranes. AEDC hopes to have the building ready for a tenant in early 2019. The project could create 50 to 75 jobs.
