Electrolux announces plans for $500 million facility upgrades

Electrolux has announced plans to modernize and expand a 400,000-sq.-ft. appliance manufacturing facility in Springfield, Mass. The company will invest $250 million to upgrade the plant, which should be completed in 2020. The expansion is expected to create 25 jobs and add advanced manufacturing technologies for producing a new line of Frigidaire freestanding cooking products.

This project is part of a plan to increase the company’s total capital expenditures to $6 billion in 2018. The plan includes an ongoing $250 million project at the firm’s refrigeration facility in Anderson, S.C., where the company is consolidating its freezer production after closing the St. Cloud, Minn., plant. Construction at the Anderson plant is scheduled for completion in 2019.
