Paper reveals how lean manufacturers are reducing waste from scrapped materials

St. Paul, Minn.-based Synchrono®, a provider of demand-driven manufacturing software and synchronization technology, has released a new InSync paper, “Get Lean on Scrap,” available for download at www.synchrono.com. The paper establishes a link between e-kanban technology and reduced levels of material waste.

The method of lean manufacturing is based on the relentless elimination of waste in manufacturing and ongoing continuous process improvement. For many, material scrap is an expensive form of waste, costing more than the material itself. Hiding behind every dollar of scrapped inventory are several more dollars lost in storage, productivity, customer satisfaction, and potential revenue.

The paper outlines various scenarios that cause scrap and explains how many manufacturers implementing e-kanban to reduce inventory costs can experience the added cost benefit of scrap mitigation. Specifically, the paper addresses how e-kanban software reduces waste associated with materials damaged during storage, materials damaged during handling, and expired materials.

The paper also references customer case studies in which waste elimination measures have been applied using SyncKanban e-kanban software from Synchrono.
