President Obama to visit Manufacturing Day event at Millennium Steel on Oct. 3

On Oct. 3 President Obama and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker will visit Millennium Steel Service in Princeton, Ind., to celebrate Manufacturing Day. Millennium supplies automotive-grade steel sheet to Toyota and related parts-makers.

“We are pleased that the White House has chosen a family-owned and -operated steel supplier as well as FMA member for his visit,” said Ed Youdell, president and CEO of the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association Intl. (FMA). “We are proud to have him participate in this annual celebration of manufacturing in America.”

Manufacturing Day is a national event, executed at the local level, that supports hundreds of manufacturers across North America as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers, and other local community members at open houses designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.

A variety of activities will be held across the country, from open house tours of manufacturing plants and educational programs at community and technical colleges to professional conferences and job fairs. Many municipalities have planned events across an entire week, and numerous states have declared October as Manufacturing Month.

A panel of co-producers comprising FMA, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute (MI), the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), and guest producer Industrial Strength Marketing (ISM) provide the centralized support necessary to coordinate this nationwide array of simultaneous events.
