Shimco, a manufacturer of aerospace-grade shims, shim materials, and precision machined parts in Cambridge, Ont., has completed a Bombardier site audit of Shimco’s new special processes facility.

“We are now approved under 15 different Bombardier special process approvals related to chemical conversion coatings, painting, and laboratory. Passivation and sulphuric acid anodizing special processes are expected to be approved very shortly,” said Peter Voss, Shimco president/CEO. “As well, although we are fully capable of using hexavalent chrome special processes, we focused on nonhexavalent chrome processes, in all areas, to be compliant with strict international REACH standards, to ensure the safety of our employees and end customers and to minimize any impacts on the environment.

“Our audit with NADCAP is already scheduled for this fall. We are now open for business to process parts for Bombardier’s suppliers,” he continued, “and will be open to all aerospace and defense customers once we get NADCAP approvals later this year.”
