Siemens Canada closes wind turbine plant in Ontario

Siemens Canada has closed its wind turbine plant in Tillsonburg, Ont., eliminating more than 340 jobs.

According to the London Free Press, Siemens was one of four plants to open in Ontario under a multibillion-dollar deal in 2010 with Samsung to generate power for the province and create green-energy manufacturing jobs. Ontario had started to contract for an additional 600 mW of wind energy, but reports indicated that the province will have enough generation capacity for at least a decade, so the government suspended plans for new projects in September.
